THE GRADUATION CEREMONY OF 62 PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FUND SPONSORED NIGERIAN STUDENTS AT THE GUANGDONG UNIVERSITY OF PETROCHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY, CHINA

Sixty two (62) Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) sponsored Nigerian students at the Guangdong University of Petrochemical University (GDUPT) took place in Maoming City, Guangdong Province on July 2nd, 2018. Present at the occasion were the Consul General of Nigeria in Guangzhou, Mr. Wale Oloko, the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Dr. Bello Aliyu GUSAU, the Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari and four officials of the PTDF. Also at ceremony were the Vice Mayor of Maoming City, Mr. Cui Jian and officials of the city and Guangdong Province.

Delivering the graduation speech, the President of the university, Professor Zhang Qinhua said the ceremony was the first GDUPT International Students’ Graduation Ceremony since the University was established in 1956. He acknowledged the incredible academic and extra curricula performances of the Nigerian students during their four years stay in the university. He observed that through their activities, the students had put Maoming on the international map as a friendly city and had received more foreign applications since the arrival of the Nigerian students. While wishing the graduation students well, he urged them to maintain the link with the university and return for their post graduates studies in future.
  2. In his speech, the CG congratulated the 62 new graduates for a successful completion of the 4-year degree courses in Petrochemical Engineering and International Economics and Trade. He also expressed appreciation to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for giving the youths the opportunity to further their education in the largest population and second largest economy in the world, and the biggest province in China. The CG equally expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for the opportunity to equip Nigerian youths with knowledge, information and skills in different fields which are necessary to successfully implement the oil and gas policy of Nigeria. He expressed the hope and belief that this opportunity will help to accelerate industrialization and promote economic growth, reduce unemployment and poverty in Nigeria, the overarching objectives of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
